First of all: thanks to my friend Arnau who gave me this book for my birthday.
Tom Neely is from Los Angeles. “The blot”, his first graphic novel, is the story of a thin and shy man who finds love. A big black ink mark follows him everywhere. When finally he seems to have found happiness, a wolf appears to take away all he has.
I’ve been reading this book three times since I received it. Every time I find out something different.
The story is quite simple but has many different reading levels. Pain, love, happiness, desire of freedom, fear, kisses and violence of some feelings… Uh, I was about to forget: there are… I think ten words.
Images are so delicate and strong and full of contents that words are really unnecessary.
I found out an interesting interview here. It’s better than anything I could write.
As Christmas time is getting closer, how about buying “The blot”? You can find it here.
This post is dedicated to Mr. M and our milestone. I’m really happy about that.
I’m not a photographer. But today the sea was so cool… I couldn’t resist. The sea was so strong, the wind was so cold, and I was too much sensitive. I hope you’ll enjoy as I did.
I’m happy to give this entry to my friend Diego Delgado (or dD, as he likes to sign his works) who finally opens the online store with his photos. This year Diego was one of the winners of “El lugar del internauta”, a photoblog competition promoted by Photoespaña.
See also his web page and his blog. I wait for your new photos, dD, good luck!
Sometimes you find books exactly when you need them.
On Saturday I was quite sad and I was walking through the street with my friend Jordi and he insisted to show me a bookshop. I entered and one of the first books that I saw was “The red tree”, published in Spain by Barbara Fiore editora. I knew this book and I’ve always read it quite quickly, but this time the text was exactly what I needed. I was feeling like the little red hair girl. I’m still looking for my red tree, but I hope I’ll find it soon…
I’m back! Yes, so much time… I went on holidays: I had to change my house; and finally my mac got broken and I had to buy a new one. So I had the blog abandoned, but I bought so many books and I’ve so many things to tell you…
Here with my first review: “The waterman and his fountain”, a precious book published in Italy by Zoolibri, an independent imprint with a good catalogue and high quality illustrators. Text by Ivo Rosati, illustrations by Gabriel Pacheco.
I saw this book when it was only a pdf proof and the evolution of the work of Gabriel Pacheco was really amazing. Colors are so soft and expression of the main character so sweet… Tecnically incredible, and emotionally positive, this book is one of my favourite.
The story is about a water man born in a faucet tapped on. And even if human beeings are a little afraid of him, he starts take care of flowers, children and animals, until a day, during a storm, drops start calling him. But I won’t tell you what will happen.
As far as I Know, this book hasn’t been published outside Italy yet. So you can only buy it here (I didn’t find it on Amazon…)
Yesterday night I arrived home… I will stay here three weeks; I’ll read, relax and enjoy of a little holiday with my friends.
This is the handmade light of my grandma. She teached me to paint on fabric. This was one of her first works.
I was surprised by the new look of my parent’s house. They paint it in violet and yellow, and it’s like living in a cake but really good, I like it. And I look carefully at my grandma’s collection of crafts and objects and I found some interesting things.
Something comes from the very beginning of XX century, something is from 50s and 70s, and there are many things from China, which are presents of my uncle, who was used to travel a lot to Asia. I have to say that there are some really kitch example of souvenir… But the whole collection is really fascinating.
Surely, the place I like the most is the kitchen. I used to study for my exams and paint there, it was my space. I drunk a lot of cofee there… and passed many nights writing or listening to the music. How many memories of that time!
I always loved the orange daisies of the wall and the blue dish.
And finally, some photos of the new fishes of my mother and the balcony, where I had been writing this post.
It’s been a long time without writing anything! So sorry…. I went to Madrid a couple of days, and I’m organizing my holidays in Italy; meet my family and friends, find a job (who knows?), relax and enjoy of my country…
Here with a little present for all of us. Madrid: the outside and the inside. That means: the sky from the car of our friends Marcelo and Jenny and the Gran Vía waking up. I will soon come back with new things. And of course, I took many coffees, that you can see, as usual, here.
The disappeared catalan publisher Bruguera was one of the first imprint in Spain dedicated to children’s and young comics. Not all the books were beautiful and the quality was not so good if compared with what was happening all over the world, but it had been smart to find this little book dedicated to spring.
I thought about how typography changed. Talking with a friend of mine, a graphic designer for primary school, she told me that right now the publishing houses don’t want to use the connected letters. Interesting theme this of typography in children’s books…
